Study Task 1 - Importance of analogue articles

Here I did a bit of background research investigating what people think about analogue crafts and reasons why they like analogue things and highlighted the key/important/relevant words.

The (electronic) world is going Digital, why Analog? Peter Kinget

"The more designs go digital, the more analog performance and value are required in every design to enhance the user experience."

"the demands on analog design have actually grown with the advancement of digital technologies"

101 Reasons to buy handmade

  • My favorite reason to buy handmade is just that - it's handmade, which means quality, and a whole lot of love!
  • I buy handmade because someone else is using their talents to create gifts and decor that I myself cannot make. Buy handmade today!

Studio Task 3 - 20 images

This is an illustration on photoshop that is designed to have effects similar to those of analog handprinted images.

An initial image than photoshopped and enhanced… the ideals that are wanted to created, can’t do this in analog.

A photograph then turned to analog as a representation in a traditional ‘glamour’ effect.

Conversely this is very digitally produced.

This Andy Warhol screenprint has a level of authenticity to it.

Aesthetically pleasing. The lines aren’t quite straight which and it has character. Even the background isn’t a solid colour which makes the piece also seen handcrafted.

Very vibrant high technicolour digital image.

Once the layer is cut there is no going back! Roll with it or start again…
The process of something being handmade is satisfying for the maker but also skill of craft is shown.

Each print is exactly the same… nothing unique or special about each piece-won’t be sold/put anywhere unless it is perfect and identical.

With analog you have a limited amount of prints and they are all different and unique which makes it exciting and limited edition (more special)

A digitally produced album cover which is made to look vintage and handmade.

The Levellers album cover here is imperfect but this draws the eye in because it is clearly hand made.

Here is a digitally produced album cover- used lots of different overlapping layers to create abstract layers and bright colours due to the printer.

Love this image! The colours and the print are quite difficult than the original “plate” however it is alluring!

The grooves of the analog being picked up rather than signals.
Same debate occurs over the direction of music-vinyl’s, CDs and mp3 tracks.
